A 7.2 R.S. earthquake hit Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra at 9:40 p.m. on October 25, 2010. The epicentrum was located 78 KM southwest Pagai Selatan Island at a shallow depth of 14.2 kilometers. A total of 95 aftershocks have been reported since then. The quakes triggered a three-meter-high tsunami. The waves penetrated about 600 meters into the coastal villages on North Pagai Island and reached to the roof of local houses.
According to National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), as per today 8.00 WIB (Indonesian western time) 112 people died; 109 people are missing; and 520 families have been displaced.
A total of 179 houses are badly damaged and 300 slightly damaged. Moreover, 4 houses of worship, 3 school buildings, 3 office buildings and 10 bridges are damaged.

Government Response
BNPB is sending 7 tons of aid: 500 tents, 50 family tents, 500 mats, 80 blankets and 650 food packages. Meanwhile the Ministry of Social Affairs is sending 5 tons of food supply and the Ministry of Health is sending 4 tons of medicines.
CWS Response
CWS is sending 140 baby kits. As part of ACT Indonesia Forum joint assessment, CWS is sending one personnel to Mentawai today. CWS will work together with its local partner, Mentawai Christian Protestant Church (GKPM).
