CWS / Indonesia has recently completed a WASH program in Puroo, Langko, Tomado and Anca villages, Lindu sub-district, Sigi district, Central Sulawesi province. The four villages were badly affected by the earthquake that hit the sub-district on August 18, 2012. In response to the earthquake CWS / Indonesia implemented a program titled ‘Water Supply and Sanitation Facilities Assistance for Earthquake Affected Families', which was funded by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) with US$ 156,586. The program supported the following activities: construction of a gravity-fed piped water supply system covering the affected communities; construction of 200 family latrines - 45 in Puroo village, 11 in Langko village, 73 in Tomado village and 71 in Anca village; and hygiene and sanitation information sessions, covering topics such as proper handwashing with soap and maintenance of latrines. Over 1,000 people, including 500 school children, participated in these information sessions which were conducted together with staff from the local government health services. The construction of all facilities was done by the community members, with technical support from CWS and supervision by the newly established clean water supply committee.
