What We Do

Emergency Response and Disaster Preparedness

Indonesia is vulnerable to natural and human-made disasters. The country is situated in the ‘ring of fire’ – a notorious zone for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Floods, landslides and long drought seasons are also regular hazards in many regions. Additionally, some communities suffer from communal violence.

CWS coordinates with relevant state agencies, local government and institutions in order to prepare for, respond to, mitigate and recover from disasters or emergencies. CWS seeks out the unmet needs of all survivors, particularly populations who were vulnerable before the disaster; and provides short and long-term recovery assistance. This includes emergency response such as temporary and transitional  shelters, providing non-food items, water supply and sanitation facilities, and psychosocial care, as well as disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation efforts.
