CWS Plan for Crisis Phase: Shelter, Beddings, Water and Psychosocial First Aid
Having considered the rapid assessment, level of damage, presence and capacity of international aid assistance as well as the breadth of assistance requested by the Government of Indonesia, CWS is looking at conducting two months of crisis intervention and another 10 months of post-crisis intervention in Padang Pariaman district, one of the most damaged area due to the 7.9RS earthquake that hit West Sumatra province around two weeks ago.
Shortly after disaster strikes, most disaster-affected people would lose their shelter and beddings, while they had to put up with bad weather as the cause of most natural disaster. Therefore, simple non-food items such as tents, tarps and bedding materials such as mats, blankets and mosquito nets become most wanted items and proven to be beneficial in post-disaster setting.
Shelter and Beddings
CWS plans to help 5,000 earthquake-affected households with non food items such as tent, tarp, mat, blanket, baby kit, mosquito net and cooking utensil during the first two months after disaster onset. The specification of those non-food items will follow the standards of Sphere.
Access to Water
In addition to shelter, as clean water is another essential item needed and access to clean water is mostly affected or even does not exist, CWS also plan to help the 5,000 households with water supply and hygiene and sanitation facilities.
Psychological First Aid
It is also important to ensure the disaster-affected people that the conditions around them has slowly returned to normal, while their basic needs such as water, shelter and food are coming. In line with this, CWS would provide psychological first aid for 200 affected children as well as women and men, which aimed at providing emotional support for affected-families and soothe away their troubles through regular visits of psychological volunteers.
