Church World Service has set up pillow tanks in 9 locations in five villages in Sungai Limau sub-district, West Sumatra. A smaller water tank with 1000 liter capacity has been set up in Paninjauan village, providing access to clean water to 14 households.
Water distribution was hampered by poor road conditions due to the landslide in Paninjauan village. Sungai Sirah village has been determined by a CWS survey to be the location for deploying a truck of PDAM with 15,000 liter capacity for deploying a truck of PDAM with 15,000 liter capacity, from which water will be distributed to nearby villages using another 2 trucks.
Despite the road conditions, CWS continues to distribute water to the earthquake-affected community in Sungai Limau sub-district. Access to water is essential. “People can live a week without food, but not a day without water,” said Jopie Sinanu, CWS’ water and sanitation specialist. A total of 10,000 liters of water was distributed to two villages in Sungai Limau sub-district on October 16.
